Northern lights – or the more poetic Aurora Borealis – is a well known phenomena high on many people’s bucket list. Many guests here at Granö Beckasin arrive with a wish to experience the magic. And rightfully so. It’s a truly mighty experience to see the light and colours dance across the sky, shifting from green to pink and purple.

We are right now at the peak of a celestial cycle that promises extra northern light activity. The number of northern light occasions will continue to rise until July 2025. The best time of day is usually between 10–11 pm.

4 ways to increase your chances

  • Where we are located, close to the arctic circle, the northern lights are visible from September to March, roughly. The farther north you are, the greater the chances. With us, the season is long and the chances are great. And we’re open all year!
  • The chance to see Aurora Borealis increase when you are away from city lights. We are located about an hour from Umeå, far from any light pollution.
  • With a guided tour, you’ll be taken to the best spots for panoramic views, and you will also learn the tricky art of photographing the northern lights. Our guide Petvin is an experience guide and nature photographer, so you’ll be in good hands.
  • There is never any guarantee that the northern lights will appear. Your chances increase if you stay with us for a few days.
